FREE THOUGHT
Free Thought's mission is to provide education to the incarcerated in pre-trail detention through book donations and GED courses.
What book changed your life? We want to send it to those in pre-trial detention
Free Thought's primary mission is to send life-changing literature to those in pre-trial detention facilities, but we also lead book clubs and writing workshops with juvenile detainees.
When a need arises, we rise to the task. This has led us to help renovate a detention center library and acquire tablets for incarcerated youth.
A Small yet Profound Gesture
Our favorite books transport us to an alternate reality...
In the two years we've been in operation, we've donated 3,600 books.
Free Thought book donations reach 8,403 currently incarcerated individuals every year.
“When the prison gates slam behind an inmate, he does not lose his human quality; his mind does not become closed to ideas; his intellect does not cease to feed on a free and open interchange of opinions; his yearning for self-respect does not end; nor is his quest for self-realization concluded. If anything, the needs for identity and self-respect are more compelling in the dehumanizing prison environment.”
